What is Reiki?
Reiki (ray-key) is an ancient Japanese folk art that uses universal life force energy to heal. It is a gently powerful and effective way to support and balance the body, mind and spirit. Reiki stimulates one's innate wisdom to heal at the source of the problem. It offers a way to comfort ourselves and a still-point from which we can discover the answers to our questions.
Reiki is given through the hands of a trained practitioner which are placed in prescribed positions upon the body. It flows to where support is needed for healing, whether it is the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual part of us. Reiki acts according to the highest good of the recipient.
What is its origin?
Reiki was rediscovered by Mikao Usui about 125 years ago. The knowledge has been passed on through Chujiro Hayashi, Usui's successor in Japan, and Hawayo Takata, who brought the practice to the western world. Her granddaughter, Phyllis Lei Furumoto, is the current grandmaster of this system of natural healing.
Today, Reiki is accepted throughout the world as an effective complementary approach to healing.
What are some effects of Reiki?
Reiki can:
· Accelerate one's natural ability to heal.
· Balance mind, body and spirit.
· Relax, energize and renew.
· Calm emotions and ease the mind.
· Stimulate spiritual equilibrium.
· Relieve stress and tension.

· Complement medical treatments and other methods of healing.
What is a Reiki treatment?
A Reiki treatment takes about an hour. The recipient remains fully clothed during the treatment. The practitioner's hands are placed gently on the recipient's body in a prescribed pattern and the person draws the energy as needed for his/her healing. A feeling of warmth from the hands of the practitioner and a sense of calmness are often reported. As unique as each of us is, there are often commonly reported results. The client generally feels relaxed and notices a sense of renewal after receiving a Reiki treatment.
Will Reiki interfere with other treatments or procedures?
No, it will not. In fact, Reiki is usually found to blend easily and well with any other approach. It is an excellent choice among the array of complementary healing. It works on the causal level and can do no harm.
It is prudent to be patient when using Reiki as a form of treatment. The wise recipient takes plenty of time to deal with any issues that may arise during their time of healing. As we re-create our reality and heal ourselves, it is helpful to honor our process and respect our own inner wisdom that guides us through the challenges and leads us toward resolution.
If you establish and honor the practice of trusting yourself, Reiki will support you and guide you to the best next step.
